Mountain Ridge Decimates the Darts at Home to Stay Unbeaten
The Mountain Ridge Sentinels came into yesterday’s matchup looking for revenge after what was an ugly game for them last year. The Davis Darts offense hung 49 points on them last year, and the much-improved defense of Mountain Ridge was looking to redeem themselves.
They did exactly that! Mountain Ridge held Davis scoreless in the first half and only gave up a fourth-quarter touchdown when the game was well out of reach. This is no slouch of an offense in Davis either. They have very good weapons still with Bode Sparrow, Jaxton Itaaheau, and Sam Coleman. Those guys scored six touchdowns on the Sentinels last year. This year, just one.
There are so many guys to talk about in this particular game. Kyler Christiansen was very impressive in all aspects. He made some big-time plays behind the line of scrimmage as well as dropping back into coverage. The Mountain Ridge secondary did a phenomenal job on those Davis wideouts with sticky glue coverage and getting their hands on the ball when Davis needed a big-time catch. This Dart offense had no answers all night long.
The Mountain Ridge offense was humming all night long, just like they have all year. They have now scored 40-plus points in all three games this year. Senior Jaxon Hunt is very poised and always knows where to go with the football. He has a type of collectiveness that only few have. It also helps that he has a plethora of weapons. Marshall West had a monster game and could not be stopped in the first half. Xander Thayer is explosive and also hauled in a very impressive catch in the back of the end zone in the third quarter. Jordan Classen might be the most underrated wideout in the state, as he has been truly special this year. These three guys were spectacular for Mountain Ridge… oh yeah, they also have a guy named Tytan DeJong. We all know how special he is.
The crazy thing is that that may not be the most impressive thing about this offense. The O-line has dominated the trenches all year long, giving Jaxon time to process and a clean pocket to throw from. They have also been creating running lanes for Bradley Foster to cook. Foster has been one of the best backs in the state this year, no doubt. He had many great runs throughout the game, two of which tallied six. Foster, unfortunately, went down in the third quarter, but Mountain Ridge picked up where they left off as Jayden Romero looked fantastic filling Foster’s role.
Mountain Ridge has taken care of business against three very good 6A teams, and they begin a friendly region schedule next week. It’s looking like this team is going to be undefeated heading into the state playoffs. They do still have to get by their rival Herriman on October 2, but every other game, the Sentinels will be heavily favored.
