Corner Canyon Dominates in 2nd Half to Cruise Past Darts in Season Opener

The 3-time reigning champion Corner Canyon Chargers went up north to take on the Davis Darts at their place to kick things off on Friday. How does Corner Canyon look this year after losing legendary coach Eric Kjar? 2025 Mr. Football winner Tradon Bessinger is irreplaceable, but how are the Darts going to manage filling such a large hole? These are the main storylines for these 2 teams heading into the year.

This game was tightly contested the entire first half. Davis got on the board first when Jaxon Itaaheau came up with a ridiculous one-handed snag in the corner of the end zone and made sure to get a foot in bounds to complete the touchdown catch. The Chargers would respond when Jaxon Pehrson uncorked a deep ball to Diesel Dart who took it the distance for a 63-yard touchdown to put Corner Canyon up 7-6 at halftime.

Fans were excited for another great half of football and a game that should come down to the wire. That’s when the game was flipped on its head. Corner Canyon ERUPTED in the 3rd quarter and before you knew it the score was 44-6 with 11:51 left in the 4th quarter. In that span, Diesel Dart ran a touchdown in on a direct snap, while also hauling in another deep ball from his QB. Pehrson also connected with Carter Kjar for a touchdown as well as taking one the distance on a read option as he broke free for 82 yards. Corner Canyon’s defense was sensational, and was forcing pressure on Scheinberg all game long one of which resulted in a safety. On the free kick of that safety Josh Harris took it back to the crib for a 68-yard return.

This game got out of hand quickly and turned into a running clock 4th quarter. The Chargers would tally on 7 more when backup QB Daren Borg wanted to get in on the fun as well with a deep pass himself that was successful for an 85-yard touchdown hauled in by Beckham Coon. Corner Canyon would go on to take this one 51-14.

Corner Canyon looks awfully scary yet again this year even with reloading at several different positions. They’ll take on two of the better teams in 5A the next two weeks playing the likes of Timpview and Fremont. Davis will also be playing Fremont, followed by another primetime matchup with the very talented Mountain Ridge Sentinels.
